Sarikei Startup Weekend 2020

Objectives:

  • To provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs.

 

  • Develop business pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation. Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.

 

  • Create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurial.

Description:

Here marks the existence of ‘Kenyalang Harvest’ (KH) in the depths of history. Founded by Benjamin Anak Alastair Aing (Foundation) from UCTS, this ‘buyer-seller’ platform’s sole purpose is to aide all Sarawak planters to earn more productively by exploiting the state’s agriculture dominance.

To visionise KH was rather simple but to actually build it up was never easy. Without these dedicated business partners, KH would not have prevailed without;

Why is Validation important to you? This workshop will help you quickly tackle a startup idea from the “hope” stage through ideation, and how to achieve market validation. We will be using Customer Development approaches by Steve Blank to talk about Validation.

“Investors don’t invest in business. They invest in stories about business”. The act of convincing others to do something with your ideas is called ‘pitch’. Learn how to convince others that your idea is amazing.

It’s a mindset of combining creative and analytical thinking and applying it toward solving a specific problem. Therefore, design thinking will involve your team to continually challenge yourself to be creative and innovative.

UCTS Halloween Party 2019

Objectives:

The event is encouraging student to get involve and socializing events and also to promote the culture of UCTS. Meanwhile, to let nominees of Student Council 2020 have better idea in organizing event.

About 70 students including organizing committee.

Description:

The Halloween party is an annual holiday celebrated each year on October 31.  It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.  In this case, the party was to set an atmosphere where students can have social enjoy themselves through events and activities.  Besides, we also held the competition for the best Halloween costume.  Other than that, hide and seek mystery items collection for (most founded items by participates) will be awarded cash prizes.

MICE Destination Marketing Contest 2019 Final

Objectives: 

To expose students to the knowledge of entrepreneurship and to improve their entrepreneur skill in the same time their communication skills.

Descriptions:

Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) by Sarawak Convention Bureau successfully hosted its first TriBE: INNOVATION Day that took place at Pullman Hotel, Kuching where industry partners gathered to celebrate the 22 graduates of TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass.

The main objective of TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass is to educate and empower Sarawak’s industry partners with the certification to enhance their professionalism and partake in the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certification. The Masterclass has been awarded the highest Continuous Education Unit (CEU) points in Malaysia of 44 points, enabling graduates to immediately sit for the CMP.

The event, launched by Deputy Chairman of BESarawak, Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Bin Tun Abang Haji Openg., was a celebration of the new and existing industry players of Business Events, “To make Sarawak a competitive destination for Business Events, we must have a strong and well-educated supplier base. The CMP credential is recognised globally as the badge of excellence in the events industry and the participants are a step closer to attaining this.”

The move to focus on professional development is part of BESarawak’s ‘Legacy Impact Programme’ that aims to drive social and economic transformation in the community and create legacies. Out of the programme’s 4 pillars – Advancing the Field, Community Benefits, Economic Outcomes and Public Policy – TriBE: INNOVATION Masterclass targets one of the drivers, ‘Professional Development’, which is parked under ‘Advancing the Field’.

TriBE: INNOVATION Day also marked the final round of MICE Destination Marketing Contest (MDMC) 2019 – Sarawak Edition which targeted university students in Sarawak from multidisciplinary fields as it aims to introduce and engage them in areas of Business Events (also known as MICE).

The 3 universities, namely Curtin University of Technology, University College Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) competed in the final round and were judged based on 3 categories of Business Events: Proposal, Bid Presentation and Booth Presentation.

According to BESarawak’s Head of Industry Development, Dylan Redas Noel “We want to spark an interest among students so that they can be acquainted with Business Events and develop a career in this industry. By running the finale concurrently with the graduation day, we hope that the participating students understand that a career in this industry is sturdy and bears many potential pathways to grow”.

The MDMC 2019 winning team, Sarawak Legatum from UCTS, wowed the judging panel of experts with their mature and exceptional skills on how to build Sibu as a Business Events hub. The team will be trained to compete in Taiwan, organised by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and will be the first ever team from Sarawak to compete.

Masiswa Sarawak 2019

Objectives:

MASISWA SARAWAK is annual Sport Tournament event, open to all students of IPTS in Sarawak.  Winners from each game is eligible to continue representing their respective institutions to compete at the national level.  

Number of Participants: 

About 800 from 19 IPTS in Sarawak.

Description:

The 10th MASISWA Zone Sarawak 2019 is organized by the Secretariat Masiswa Sarawak Zone. UCTS first started joined MASISWA SARAWAK in year 2013. On 2014, UCTS first time won 3 placing for Netball. On 2015, UCTS managed to won 2 placing for Basketball and 3 placing for Netball. 

However, on 2016, UCTS managed to won 1 placing in Badminton Mixed Double, Badminton Men Double and Basketball. 2 placing in Netball.  With this, UCTS managed to scored overall of 3 place among the IPTS in Sarawak.

On 2017, UCTS managed to achieve another great milestone by scored overall of 2 place among the IPTS in Sarawak by won: 1 placing for Table Tennis Men Single. 2 placing for Netball, Basketball, Badminton Men Single, Badminton Women Double and Badminton Mixed Double 1. 3 placing for Badminton Men Double and Badminton Mixed Double 2.

On 2018, UCTS managed to maintain overall 2 place among all IPTS Sarawak by won: 1 placing for Netball, Badminton Men Double 1 and Table Tennis Men Single. 2 placing for Basketball and Badminton Men Double 2. 3 placing for Table Tennis Mixed Double. 

For this year 2019, MASISWA SARAWAK managed to attracted about 800 students from 19 institutions of higher learning throughout Sarawak. UCTS managed to maintain the good result with overall 2 placing by won 1 placing for Table Tennis Men Single, Table Tennis Men Double 1 and Badminton Women Double. 2 placing for Badminton Mixed Double, Table Tennis Men Double 2 and Netball. 3 placing for Basketball.

Youth Sarawak Social Business Challenge Bootcamp 2019

M Hotel, Kuching.

Objectives: 

To ideate and generate solutions using the social business model.

To aid the creation of new social businesses in Sarawak, and encourage participation of youths in solving social/environmental issues of the state.

Number of Participants: 

4  Bachelor of Technology Management students represents UCTS.

Descriptions:

Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) organizes competitions (YSSBC/YSSBC 2019) on social entrepreneurship with Youth Trust Foundation (YTF) to facilitate Sarawak on the process of becoming a digital economy driven state. SMA is spearheading the digital economy in Sarawak in terms of the development of digital infrastructure, cyber security, talent development, e-commerce, research and development (R&D) in digital technology, digital innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as digital governance in this state. The YSSBC/YSSPC 2019 Bootcamp was held on the 6th until the 8th of September 2019 in Kuching Sarawak, where 9 projects by 9 schools and 9 social business ideas by 9 young adult teams from Sarawak, underwent an intensive 3-days 2-nights bootcamp learning valuable project management and presentation skills. These 18 teams then presented their pitches in front of a panel of judges where 5 teams from each category were shortlisted to progress to the next round to undergo the market validation phase.

UCTS team has been selected to advance into the next phase of the competition, which is the market validation phase as the finalists for YSSBC/YSSPC. Five (5) teams from each category need to implement their projects or social business ideas, from now until the 14th of November 2019. The finalists will embark on a market validation activity to test their ideas, within their respective communities. They will be working with SMA, YTF, and industry mentors throughout the two-month process, and will eventually gather to deliver their final pitch to a panel of judges on the 16th of November 2019..

Borneo Cultural Festival Entrepreneurship Booth 2019

Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang, Fasa 2 Sibu.

Objectives: 

To give the opportunity to the entrepreneur especially among the students to sell their product to the customer. Also, expose students to the knowledge of entrepreneurship and to improve their entrepreneur skill in the same time their communication skills.

Descriptions:

The Borneo Cultural Festival, or mostly recognised as BCF, is an annual week-long event organised by Sibu Municipal Council in Sarawak. It is a festival of food, music and dance, celebrating the diverse cultural background of Sibu community such as Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Malay, Melanau and Chinese. The abundance cultural heritage in Sarawak comprises of multiracial beliefs and habits making the state unique. 

 We provide entrepreneur platform for students assisted by advisers to improve their practical entrepreneurship skills.

UCTS Badminton Competition Open 2019

Descriptions:

UCTS – Fresher Fair is an event that is conducted after every semester starts, to allow freshmen students to familiarize themselves with the clubs and organizations within campus grounds. It also presents opportunities for new students to register as a member of the many clubs we have in UCTS. There are 31 booths with lots to see and do, it even gives you the chance to try something completely new – which can be just as exciting. With every club organizing their own events every semester, our campus is filled with events and competitions to participate in!

 

Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Career Talk To Foundation Students

Descriptions:

UCTS – Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) is an energy development company and a vertically integrated power utility with a vision to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity for Sarawak by meeting the region’s need for reliable, renewable energy and currently providing electricity to 2.8 million Sarawakians in urban and rural areas.


SEB shared their industries expectations with foundation student on how to be employment ready during their foundation year by educating and informing students on the career opportunities available.


Creating an early awareness in the students of what undergraduate program could be the potential career with SEB.


SEB not only look in terms of academic achievement but also on soft skill such as to have strong leadership skills, be a team player and active participation in extra-curricular activities such as societies, clubs, sports, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and the list goes on.

Kenyalang Cultural Night 2019

2)  Promoting UCTS to outsider.

Descriptions:

Kenyalang Cultural Night 2019 is annual pageant which basically deals with showcasing the cultural ethics of the Malaysian People. This Kenyalang Cultural Night program will be organized by Sri Tari Kenyalang, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).The Kenyalang Cultural Night is a fun Field showcase of the rich racial harmony, Ethnic diversity and culture in Malaysia. 

 

Foundation Orientation May Intake 2019

Objectives: 

1) To provide warmest welcoming for all the new students to UCTS.

2) To meet and greet with the UCTS Management, School, Staff, Student Council, Senior, as well others new students. 

3) To furnish the new students with the comprehensive information about academic, support infrastructures and student services resources in campus.

4) To familiarize students with the physical facilities and environment in campus.

Descriptions:

Orientation is organized to furnish the new students with the necessary information or details in campus.  The proposed activities had been designed to redefine and reintroduce the face of the new UCTS Student Council and to make sure the students working together with same objectives, mission and vision in UCTS.  The activities and shows are designed to break the ice, nurture togetherness and teamwork among students and the inclusion of all members of group to participate in every activity regardless the numbers of students.  At the same time, it is meant to be fun filled for all individual involves and suitable for all ages.

Descriptions:

UCTS – Sarawak’s first architect Dato’ Sri John Lau Kah Sieng was invited through Jobsmore Agency to give a sharing session on his personal working experience as well as how he started up KDI business in Sibu and expanded his branch in Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and many more.

Sport Carnival 2019

Objectives: 

There are 5 types of sports to be contested namely; athletic games, badminton, street soccer, netball, and basketball. The tournament is early preparation for UCTS contingent before MASISWA Sarawak Zone on the October 2019. Winners will be awarded with medals whereas the overall champion will take away the new Vice Chancellor’s Challenge Trophy.

Rejang Hat 2019

12th – 13th January 2019

Venue: 

Stadium Tun Zaidi, Sibu

Objectives: 

To promote Sibu and also Ultimate Frisbee.

Number of Participants: 

150 Pax. 

(Players from all round Malaysia including West Malaysia, Sabah, Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Bintangor, Sarikei and Sibu)

Descriptions:

UCTS – The first ever Frisbee Hat Tournament organized by Frisbee Club of University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) from 12th to 13th of January 2019 has drew to a successful close.
The objective of this tournament is to promote Sibu and also Ultimate Frisbee. Therefore, the event is themed with Sibu’s culinary delicacy. The tournament involves 10 different teams, where the names of all the teams are assigned with the delicacies from Sibu town namely; “Zen Don Bin”, “Pulut Panggang”, “Li Bing”, “Kampua”, “Laksa”, “Dian Bian Hu”, “Kompia”, “Apam Balik”, “Chick Cake”, and “Mee Sua”. The tournament has successfully attracted 150 participants to join and compete in the game, with passionate ultimate frisbee players from all round Malaysia including West Malaysia, Sabah, Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Bintangor, Sarikei and of course Sibu.
Team Dian Bian Hu won the competition and brought back cash money worth RM300 and medal. Meanwhile, 1st runner up goes to Team Li Bing and went back with cash money worth RM200 and medal. The 2nd runner up goes to Team Laksa and brought back cash money worth RM150 and medal. The prizes was presented by Mr. Lu Yew King, the Head of Student Development and Services Department.

Borneo Cultural Festival 2018

Sibu Town Square

Objectives: 

To promote ‘beauty in ethnic diversity’ within Borneo Island to the world.

Descriptions:

It is a week-long celebration of food, music and dances celebrating the diverse cultural background of Sibu Community such as Iban/Bidayuh/Orang Ulu (Dayak Pavilion), Malay/Melanau and Chinese.  There will be performance shows of different ethnic.  In the view of this, UCTS will also been invited by them to join the performance.  Through the performance, it is hope that UCTS can be promoted to everyone.  UCTS students also can take chances to participate in the competition such as MISS BDCF, Wushu Art Performance, Modern Dance and Sri Kenyalang Traditional Dance.

Survival Camp 2018
